Have A Non Traditional Christmas

You may wonder why I’m doing this blog, well I’m doing Have A Non Traditional Christmas, because I’m tired of the same Christmas songs every year.

I mean I love Christmas and I’m a Christian with Christian values, but for all my life I had to hear the same songs and it’s boring.

When I was growing up, My Mom would play Mitch Miller albums everyday (at a child I hated it, but but now I’m enjoying it), as well as Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Andy Williams (in my life time, I started to enjoy it and remember My Parents).

When I was a teenager I found Rock’N’Roll Christmas songs and they were great, only I couldn’t play them loud, because My Grandparents wouldn’t like it, but I tried to play them when it’s February to November and I be laugh at my neighbors who also were my classmates.

In the 1970’s I found protest songs of Christmas music, which got me into the spirit of Christmas once again. John Lennon’s Happy Xmas (War Is Over really got me thinking about what I should do with my life and not what I should have from a box under the Christmas tree.

In the 1970’s and the 1980’s, I found novelty songs that were Christmas songs and I didn’t care when or where I played them (I still was teased but I didn’t care).

I was hooked on R&B since the 1970’s, but about R&B Christmas songs until this millennium, and was I disillusioned about people who are black singing the same songs that I grew up from My Parents, not only that, but sounding like them as well. I thought at least today artist would Jazz it up and put their thumb print on the classic Christmas songs or write some new songs for the next generation, but as of now, that’s just a pipe dream and it won’t happen in my lifetime.

Christmas music isn’t the same as before, for no one buys the album after Christmas is over, so it’s a quick buck, which maybe it will sell every year but played for two weeks.

For those who think the same way I do, here’s some Christmas songs that you won’t be hearing on the radio, nor can you find them on iTunes (except where I indicate). So enjoy Christmas and play these Christmas songs on Christmas Day to your family, and see their reactions. Play them to your friends, classmates or coworkers, their never think about the same way they do now.
